Planting and maintaining a perennial garden
Ongoing installation, multiple locations
Planting and Maintaining a Perennial Garden is a part of an ongoing series of work that utilizes cedar wood panels to host a variety of interventions. Reusing the cedar creates a layered history of all the previous locations and interventions, bringing them to each new setting and use. Based on the 1930’s New Bauhaus wood paneling of the South Side Community Art Center’s(SSCAC) Margaret Burroughs Gallery, these wood panels are physical records of the history of their spaces. Sometimes installed as walls, tables, chairs, or floors, the history of the space is visible in the wear, texture, and character of the cedar panels.
